Description: 16mm Film - Departure 11:20 - BRD 1964 Camera, Script and Direction: Karl Koch Cast: Unknown The holidays have begun. Thomas, a nine-year-old boy, has received an invitation from his friend Werner to visit him in Wächtersfeld (fictitious place name). He will be using the Bundesbahn as his means of transportation. An express train leaves Eisenstadt main station at 11.20 a.m. for Dornbrück (both are also fictitious places, Eisenstadt is clearly Dortmund). Wächtersfeld station is on the line to Dornbrück. Thomas and his older sister make their way to the station in good time. Thomas takes his new bike, a match bag and a ball in a net; his sister carries the suitcase. They buy their tickets - ticket, platform ticket, bike ticket - and go to platform 16, where the train to Dornbrück is scheduled to depart. Thomas leaves his bike in the luggage car, finds a nice window seat, stows his luggage in the net and says goodbye to his sister Irene. The train departs on time at 11.20. Heidi, a three-year-old girl, is sitting in the window seat opposite with her mother. She has placed her teddy bear on the window sill, and the two of them play with it, teasing each other; finally they both enjoy eating their travel snacks. They drive through a tunnel, over a bridge, next to a main road, stop at one intermediate station, drive through another; the passengers change, the conductor checks the tickets - and finally Wächtersfeld is announced. Thomas puts his suitcase and match bag by the exit, says goodbye and the train arrives at Wächtersfeld station. Werner is standing on the platform, waiting for his friend. The two greet each other in their own way. Werner stands by the luggage while Thomas takes his bike out of the carriage. While they both marvel at the new bike, the train starts moving again. Then Thomas remembers: 'Where's my ball?' At the same moment, Heidi throws the ball through the train window and all Thomas can say is 'Thank you! Thank you!' after the departing train. The two boys leave the station.
