16mm Film - 7 Years - 70 Years - Mrs. Mauser's Chocolates - BRD 1975
Script and Direction: Petra Kiener
Camera: Edgar Reitz
Cast: Jessica Zimmer, Mathias Eysen, Britta Fischer, Trude Breitschopf, and others.
Petra Kiener and Edgar Reitz tell in their film the story of the girl Karin, whose grandmother dies and who tries to understand what that is: death. A sober morality tale told with grace and precision. Nothing of snivelling. The grandmother: by no means a sympathetic figure - rather stiff with age and whimsical than lovable. Nothing of an ideal world. The harmony at the grave is deceptive; the mourners are at odds. Nothing of sentimentality. In the end, father and daughter find their way back to earth at the funeral feast with chocolates.
(First broadcast on WDR: 15.04.1976)
